01 · About this conversation

A short discovery, before we propose anything.

Before we send you a detailed proposal, we want to understand your program, your priorities, and your constraints. The next 12 sections walk through what we need to know — most are quick, several are optional. You can save your progress and come back anytime.

When you're done, we'll turn your responses into a tailored proposal within 5–7 business days. The proposal will include the platform's design, build plan, pricing, and timeline — all shaped around what you tell us here.

02 · Your program

Tell us about your program.

Helps us right-size the platform and design appropriate workflows. Our working assumptions: Mode II (Individual) is recommended given your personal IP preference; primary users are nursing students; mix of campus + community use.

Action 1.0: Click one of the two cards below to pick your platform setup. (Most consequential decision in this discovery.)

Path I

CDU-integrated

Users log in with their CDU credentials. CDU has admin oversight. The platform is part of CDU's program.

ComplianceFERPA + HIPAA
HostingCDU IT
IP fitCDU-leaning
Compliance & hosting pros
  • CDU IT operates the infrastructure — servers, backups, monitoring all on them
  • Plugs into CDU's existing identity system — no separate login system to maintain
  • CDU's existing compliance machinery handles ongoing FERPA / HIPAA operations
  • Fits within CDU's approved tech stack, hosting, and security tools
  • Updates flow through CDU's tested change-management process
Compliance & hosting cons
  • Vendor security review queue can delay launch by weeks
  • Limited to what CDU IT supports — modern tools may not be options
  • FERPA scope is wider — student-identifiable data falls under FERPA automatically
  • Compliance posture is CDU's standards, which may exceed what the platform needs
  • Less flexibility to swap hosting providers or update infrastructure later

Path II · Recommended

Independent platform

Each user signs up with their own email/password, regardless of CDU status. The platform is independent — you control it.

ComplianceHIPAA + state law
HostingFlexible
IP fitPersonal-ownership aligned
Compliance & hosting pros
  • Choose modern, HIPAA-eligible hosting that fits the platform best
  • Faster to deploy — no institutional IT review queue in the path
  • Lighter FERPA scope — users sign up independently, not as student records
  • Tech stack and update cadence are flexible (no CDU IT constraints)
  • Cleaner data-controller chain — single platform, single operator
  • We hand you a turnkey compliance package at transfer (encryption, audit logs, runbook)
Compliance & hosting cons
  • Your designated operator (you, your LLC, or your appointed team) becomes the data controller — owning breach notification and audit response
  • Ongoing compliance operations sit on your side, not CDU's — training, policies, regulatory filings
  • CDU IT isn't in the loop for infrastructure incidents — your side or your hosting provider handles them
  • A separate BAA with the hosting provider is required (we'll set this up at handoff)
  • Day-to-day security operations live on your side rather than CDU's (we deliver the tools and runbooks; your side operates)

Action: Click chip options below where they match. Add notes in the text box if needed. All optional.
03 · What you're solving

What problem are we solving?

Your answers anchor every decision in the proposal that follows. Open-ended questions here — type freely.

Action: Click chip options where they apply, then type more in the text box.
04 · Existing assets

What do you already have?

You mentioned on our May 4 call that you have content and questions on hand. The more we can re-use, the lower the cost and faster the build.

Action: Click chip options below where they match. Add notes in the text box if you want to elaborate.
05 · Hosting & IT (optional)

CDU's IT environment.

This section is optional for now. Answer what you can, skip what you can't.

Optional: All questions in this section are skippable. Click a chip if you have a quick answer; type for details.
06 · Compliance

What we'll cover. What transfers to you.

Most of this is for your information. The questions at the bottom are optional confirmations.

What we'll do during development
  • Encryption at rest and in transit
  • Audit logs (who accessed what, when)
  • Role-based access (students, faculty, admin)
  • Daily automated backups + secure key management
  • Development uses synthetic / sample data only — no real patient information ever flows through our systems during the build
  • Breach-response runbook handed to you at transfer
  • FERPA-aware data structure
What transfers to you (handoff)
  • You become the operator and assume ongoing compliance
  • We provide all documentation: security plan, audit log format, runbook, transfer manifest
  • Our BAA terminates for new data; existing data handed off per a documented agreement
  • Going forward, your compliance posture is on you (or CDU) — we're available for paid support
Optional: Click chip options to confirm or push back. All questions optional.
07 · IP & contracting

The legal foundation.

You've mentioned you want to personally fund and own the platform. This section confirms practical details and surfaces anything we need to address in the agreement.

What we'll do during contracting
  • Industry-standard contract structure: Acquisition (one-time IP transfer) + Maintenance (annual)
  • Plain-English summary alongside the legal text
  • Compliance terms baked in: HIPAA BAA, FERPA terms if Mode I, state law
  • Firm pricing locked in the proposal phase — no surprises
  • Standard payment: 2–3 invoices for acquisition (50/25/25); annual for maintenance
Action: Click chip options where they match, add notes for details.
08 · Timeline & budget

Pace and pricing.

Standard payment structure: one-time acquisition fee + annual maintenance + optional add-ons. Firm pricing comes with the proposal — discovery surfaces the ranges so we can shape a recommendation that fits.

Timeline by tier
  • Tier 1 (Like-for-Like): 8–12 weeks from contract
  • Tier 2 (AI-Ready) — recommended: 10–14 weeks
  • Tier 3 (AI-Native): 14–20 weeks
Action: Click chip options to indicate timing. Type ranges or specific dates if you have them.
09 · Build options

Three tiers. Pick what fits.

Each tier is additive — Tier 2 includes Tier 1, Tier 3 includes Tier 2. We recommend Tier 2 (AI-Ready) as a sweet spot.

Action 8.1: Click the "Select" button on whichever tier fits. Multi-select OK.
